History of Pharmacy Service in Lau King Howe Hospital

The Rattan Basket System

Before medication trolleys were introduced in the 1990s, medicines were transported from the Pharmacy Unit to the wards using rattan baskets. These were the same type of baskets commonly used by local traders to carry oranges.

Although the introduction of medication trolleys improved efficiency, the former practice remains a memorable part of hospital history. It also provided opportunities for pharmacy personnel and nurses, who were involved in collecting and delivering the baskets, to interact more frequently.

Many more pharmacy apparatus and equipment can also be discovered throughout the museum, offering visitors further insight into the evolution of healthcare practices and medical history.
