Radiology Section
Soon after the arrival of the first static X-ray machine, a Watson Odeka 70mm camera unit called Mass Miniature Radiography (MMR) was available. It was used for screening tuberculosis as well as medical check-up. The 70mm film was viewed with MMR reading apparatus. In 1985, MMR was banned by the Ministry of Health due to its unacceptable high radiation dosage. Radiation dose from MMR was 283 mµSv as compared to radiation dose of 35.5 mµSv from present X-ray.
In 1975, the MMR room renovated for Outpatient Department X-ray room. Another static X-ray machine was added.
A new chapter of X-ray service opened in 1977 with a new modern machine GEC Rontgen 301, coupled with fluoroscopic equipment. A year later it was incorporated with image intensifier and a TV monitor.
In 1986, ultrasound service was introduced. An ultrasound machine was donated by the "SABATI GROUP" (Sarawak Minister and Assistant Minister's wives Association).
In the new hospital, X-ray service continued to expand its scope to include services such as digital mammogram, CT scan and MRI.
Many more radiology apparatus and equipment can also be discovered throughout the museum, offering visitors further insight into the evolution of healthcare practices and medical history.
