Old Dental Equipment
The foundation for the oral health services in Sibu was laid when a dental clinic was established at the outpatient department of Lau King Howe (LKH) Hospital in 1958.
1960 Dental Nurse Lucy Ho joined the dental clinic at LKH Hospital
1963 School Dental service initiated – 1st school dental clinic in Sarawak was established at Methodist Primary School in October.
Fluoridation of public water supply implemented at the Bukit Lima water treatment plant
1967 Dental clinic at LKH Hospital re-located to its own building within the hospital compound when the Sibu Dental Clinic was completed
1973 Service of mobile dental clinic began, plying the Sibu/Bintulu/Sarikei/Saratok roads to provide oral healthcare to the rural folks. Service terminated in 1975
1978 Mobile Dental Squad started to replace the mobile dental clinic
1981 1st secondary school dental clinic in Sibu established at SMB Sacred Heart
1985 Oral healthcare to pre-school children in kindergarten started
1986 Dental Clinic at the Maternal and Child Health Clinic (MCHC), Jalan Klinik started – moved to LKH Polyclinic in 1996
1991 Another dental clinic established at Jalan Oya Polyclinic. The toddler’s initiative at the MCHC started and in 1996 extended to day care centres.
1993 “Program Pergigian Kanak-Kanak Istimewa” (children with special needs) was launched.
1994 The new Sibu Hospital was completed and the dental specialist clinic was operational in September.
1995 Divisional Dental Office moved to the former Nurses Home behind the Sibu Dental Clinic.
1996 Outreach initiative for the aged in Sibu Benevolent Society began.
1998 The LKH Clinic-Based Rehabilitation Centre for oral healthcare in Sibu Started.
2000 Oral cancer/pre-cancer screening initiative started at the main dental clinic and in 2003 done on an outreach basis.
2003 Divisional Dental Office moved to 8th floor Block 3, Wisma Persekutuan.
2004 Oral Health Service, Sibu hosted the 2nd Anniversary celebration of Pinnacle.
2005 Dental Service in LKH Hospital was terminated in March and commenced at Klinik Kesihatan Lanang.
2006 The Dental Clinic at LKH Hospital demolish in March.
